- Place the cursor where you’d like your signature line to go in your Word document. Go to the Insert tab and under “ Text” click “ Signature List,” followed by “ Microsoft Office Signature Line “.
- After a file is digitally signed, the Signatures button appears, and the file becomes read-only to prevent modifications. Remove invisible digital signatures from Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Open the document, worksheet, or presentation that contains the invisible signature you want to remove. Click the File tab.
- To protect the authenticity of the document, you can add an invisible digital signature to the document. The following is a simple way to do it. Step 1: Open the document you would like to sign in Microsoft Word and then click on the 'File' tab. Step 2: From the options under 'File'. Click on 'Info'.
- You can now drag and drop the signature field to add your signature to the Word document. Click “Signature” on the left side of the page, click the spot in your document where you want to insert your signature. If a signature is all that’s needed, you are done. Click the yellow “Adopt and Sign” button at the bottom of the window.
You can use your DigiCert® Document Signing Certificate to add a visible digital signature inside a Word document or Excel workbook. Your signature appears within the document to let recipients know that the document was signed. Open the Word app or some other app which accepts drawing of some sort. Write your signature on the screen, erase and try again until you’re happy with it. Remember this is a ‘keeper’ that you can use on any future documents. Once you’re happy, take an image of the screen with your signature.
How to Create a Signature inside a Microsoft Word Document or Excel Workbook

Plug in your Document Signing Certificate token.
In Microsoft Word or Excel, open the document that you want to sign.
In the word document or worksheet, place you cursor (pointer) where you want the signature line to appear.
Click Insert.
On the Insert tab, in the Text section, click Signature Line > Microsoft Office Signature Line.
In the Signature Setup window, enter the information that you want to appear below the signature line:
Suggested signer Enter the signer’s full name. Suggested signer’s title Enter the signer’s job title. Suggested signer’s email address Enter the signer’s email address. Instruction to the signer Add any necessary instructions for the signer. Allow the singer to add comments in the sign dialog Check this box to permit the signer to type a purpose for signing. Show sign date in signature line Check this box if you want the signature date to appear with the signature. When you are finish entering your information, click OK.
The signature field should appear in the word document or worksheet.
Note: You can drag-and-drop the signature field to position it where you want on the page or in the worksheet.
To insert your signature, right-click on the signature line and then, in the drop-down list, click Sign.
In the Sign window, in the X box, type your name and/or click Select Image to choose a signature image.
In the Commitment Type drop-down list, select the commitment type that best represents the signer’s role.

In the Purpose for signing this document box, enter your purpose for signing the document.
To add information about the signer, click Details. Then, in the Additional Signing Information window, enter the information and then, click OK.
Next, in the Sign window, click Change.
In the Windows Security window, select the certificate that you want to use to sign the document and then, click OK.
In the Sign window, click Sign.
If you are using a DigiCert® Document Signing Certificate, enter your token password, and then click OK.
In the Signature Confirmation window, read the message and then, click OK.
Note: If you checked Don’t show this message again, this window does not appear.
The signature should be inserted in your document.

There are many documents that require a signature like a lease, medical forms, and basically anything official in your life. When you need to make a document that requires a signature, here are the steps to add a signature to your Word document.
- Place the cursor in your Word document where you want to insert a signature.
- Click the Insert tab.
- Select Signature Line.
- A menu will appear.
- Fill out the required fields.
- Select OK.
- A signature line now appears in your Word doc.
- When you’re ready, share the document with the person from which you’re requesting the signature.

Can You Digitally Sign A Document In Word
- Once you have opened the document, you will be notified at the top menu bar with a yellow alert bar that states that this document requires a signature.
- In the yellow alert bar, select View Signatures.
- To add your signature, double click next to the “X.”
- A Sign box will appear where you can type you name out to use as your signature, or you can upload an image you might have stored on your computer.
- When you are ready to sign, click Sign.
